Extensive Experience In High-Conflict Custody Disputes

A child custody dispute is among the most serious legal challenges a person can ever face. Time with your child, once lost, is something that you can never get back again. Our founding attorney Mark Ressa has over 35 years of legal experience, and he focuses on resolving complex family law disputes, achieving timeshares that suit his clients and their children.

Mr. Ressa strives to resolve child custody disputes as efficiently and effectively as possible to prevent families from sustaining avoidable costs and the trauma of drawn-out litigation. His proven strategies include private mediation and consultations with local and statewide experts in child psychology and child custody evaluators.

While Mr. Ressa is a highly trained and accomplished trial attorney, he will not recommend taking your case to court unless he believes it is in your best interests.

Our approach to high-conflict custody disputes involves extensive research and preparation to determine whether a court is likely to rule in your favor. Mr. Ressa may consult with psychologists and custody evaluators to learn whether your particular goals are achievable before diving into costly litigation. If he finds that your preferred arrangement is not likely to be approved by a court, he will recommend alternative options to best meet your needs and your child's best interests.

Fair And Effective Child Support Arrangements

Mr. Ressa has an in-depth understanding of the California child support laws. He created SupportPro, the first Windows-based child support calculation program to be certified for court use by the California Judicial Council.

Under California law, all parents are required to support their children until they graduate from high school or turn 19. Arrangements can be made, in some cases, to support the child longer by contributing to college expenses, for example.

Each parent is to contribute according to his or her ability, and a custodial parent is generally considered to have fulfilled this obligation. The state uses a mathematical formula to determine exactly how much a noncustodial parent should contribute, but many variables result in discretion and are subject to fact-finding.

Bay Area Divorce strives to achieve fair and effective child support orders for our clients, both inside or outside of court.
